Written by Kristin

Sample Image

I get to review some pretty cool stuff here on Mobile Magazine, but now you can get in on the "play with new gadgets for free" game too thanks to a fun promotion by the people at Dash. If you head on over to the official website, you'll have an opportunity to fill out a survey, giving you a chance to beta test the Dash GPS portable navigation unit. And it's not just one or two people to whom they'll dish out the goods: they're choosing "2000 car loving gadget heads who can put their next generation GPS systems to the test this summer."

Sample Image When you're going for an extended run, the last thing you want to do is carry around a backpack full of gear. It's all about keeping lightweight. It's all about convergence. It's all about the Paroos G100 GPS trainer, which doubles as an MP3 player to keep your head bobbing as you feet keep stomping the pavement (or dirt path, as the case may be).

Sample ImageNot to be confused with the computer line from HP, Pavion is set to unleash a brand spanking new portable navigation unit onto the world, and like so many others of its kind, the KCN 9000 throws down some multimedia functionality as well.
The vibrant 3.5-inch QVGA TFT touchscreen comes by way of Samsung, and it is capable of displaying resolutions up to 320 x 240 pixels. Under the hood you'll find ATLAS2 paired with a 300MHz processor. In the memory department, there's 32MB of ROM and 64MB of RAM, with room for expansion via SD memory cards.

Passport 9500i: Radar Detector and GPS
Written by Kristin
Wednesday, 13 June 2007

Sample ImageThe Passport 9500i, from Escort, is just such a device, packing in GPS and voice messaging systems so it's one handy thing to have in your vehicle. It even has a USB port, for transferring data from the Web to the Passport.

The GPS is a SiRF starIII chipset. That's all well and good, but the exciting part is that it is programmable, enabling you to identify and tell the 9500i to ignore false alarms, like an automatic door sensor. The onboard memory system can remember a series of speed trap locations and traveling speed via GPS, and even tell the difference between true and false readings, sounding the alarm if a patrol officer happens to set up shop right next to a known false reading spot.
