Clarion MAP780 was also announced right next to Clarion MAP680 yesterday. The difference between the two models is that MAP780 has 2GB of internal memory which includes details maps of 43 European countries whereas MAP680 has 1GB of internal memory and has regional maps. |

Clarion just announced two new personal navigation devices one of which is MAP680. The device includes communication and entertainment functions in addition to navigation which is capable of showing certain buildings in 3D, and even the route in true 3D; depicting hills in the streets, underpasses, and bridges. |

With summer approaching and people getting their bikes out more often, TomTom unveiled the new RIDER 2nd Edition navigation device for motorcycles. The RIDER 2nd Edition is an enhanced version of the original Rider and features TomTom Map Share, Help Me!, Fuel Prices Service and even TomTom Traffic with a 30-day free trial. The device features a 3.5 inch 320x240 full TFT color LCD, and comes with 2GB external SD card with maps of USA and Canada preloaded. |

MTI Micro is edging dangerously close to vaporware status, but until 2009 comes and goes, we suspect we still owe it the benefit of the doubt. The ever-boastful company is at it once again, this time showing off a purported fuel cell powered-GPS prototype at the International Small Fuel Cells Conference in Atlanta. |

Takara recently debuted a new in-dash car entertainment system with GPS navigation called Takara GPV 1004. Expected to hit the market in Europe first, Takara GPV 1004 will probably go for 399 €. The navigation software of this 1-DIN device will be the highly popular iGo from Nav N Go and the screen will measure 4″ which will be motorized to reveal the optical drive on the back. Maps will be provided from TeleAtlas and the GPS receiver from SiRF. |

MTI Micro last week unveiled a new embedded micro fuel cell prototype design for handheld GPS devices called Mobion. Mobion powered GPS prototype provides three times as much energy as GPS devices powered by four disposable AA batteries and can generate up to 60 hours of continuous power and provide weeks instead of days of typical usage. |
